Sell out your private ad space in 5 days!

July 20th, 2008 Posted in Articles | 6 Comments »

So I finally decided to lie low down a bit with Google Adsense because my June 2008 income didn’t do fairly well and I opt to try my luck with private ad sales. My quest for finding private advertisers was successful. I made around $400+ from it in just five days.clip_art_3.jpg All I need was just five days in order to sell out my private ad spots. How did I do it? I’m sure you are dying to know.

What I did was not to sit back and wait for an advertiser to say, “Oh! That site sure is is a great blog to place my ads!” Come to think of it, how will these publishers ever find your site unless you are an “a-list blogger”.

Flaunt my ad statistics – The ace that I got was my site statistics. I’ve showed off my Alexa rank, Unique Visitors and Pageviews. Unknowing to newbie private ad sellers, unique visitors is a very important factor in selling a private ad. Next is the demographic location on where your blog traffic is coming from and the people who are reading your blog. You don’t want to put a dental hygiene private ad in a gossip blog. Won’t you? Your blog reader wouldn’t be interested in those kind of private ads. The most important thing in showing off your statistics is being honest. Do not put misleading informations about your ad statistics. You are going to loose in a long run. Do not annoy the private advertisers.

Contact the private advertisers – It’s not stalking, it’s online marketing. I visited sites with the same niche as mine, then contact the advertisers through e-mail and ask them if they are interested in advertising in my site. The response was surprisingly pretty good. Some of them even offered to sponsor my site for good. Two advertisers even bought a one whole year package. That was the moment I told myself, “Dang! I should have done this a long time ago!” Bear in mind to make your email inviting and polite. Don’t sound like a spammer in your email and be smart in your subject title. In your email, place your stats and everything they need to know about the advertising and why should they advertise in your blog. It’s like you are sending your resume and you better made it really good or else they won’t call back.

cool.PNGCompromise – Some advertisers may ask for a little something extra so compromise. Don’t sell yourself too cheap. Private advertisers would think that the blog owner don’t even value their own blogs. Also, don’t ask too much, this would surely turn your advertisers off. One of the advertisers asked me if he could have a one week free trial of advertising in my blog but I firmly say no. Because I believe in my blog so much that it will get some wonderful blog advertisers, and it did.

And that’s how I sold out my private ads and earn $400+ out of it in five days.

Why I left Project Wonderful

July 18th, 2008 Posted in Archives | 2 Comments »

I am using Project Wonderful for five months until I finally decided to let it go. I’ve signed up with Project wonderful in hope of gaining additional blog income out of it through private advertisers. Too bad the results weren’t as desirable as I’ve expected. No offense to Project Wonderful, they are wonderful on what they are doing.

The problem is the advertisers and their strategy. First, if there are no other advertisers in your site, the first advertiser charge is free. Ad space in Project Wonderful is sold through bidding. So when no other person bids on your blog, you won’t get a penny. This happens when you do not set a minimum bid in your blog.

Secondly, some advertisers do not even advertise for the whole day. They just advertise for a few hours then leave. So if you just charge $0.01 a day in your ad space, you won’t get anything too. Then come back again after and few days and do the same thing over and over again.

Another thing is, in Project wonderful, you have no actual control on your blog advertisers. What if their ads are offensive? Unless you visit your Project Wonderful ad, you won’t know that those offensive ads are shown in your site. This happens if you choose the auto approval on ads option. However, if you opt for the option, Let me approve all ads, chances are, your ad queue would always be filled up because of the small pricing. Sometimes, ads that are shown in your site are not related at all with your blog content or they clash with your site design, worst, their banners maybe inappropriate too.

For four months, I’ve earned at least $45, to think that my site has an average of 8,000 page views a day
