I agree with you, I’m planning on putting a featured article section up there with the RSS block. The Recent Comments and Recent Posts blocks will go in the footer. The design there was just to help me as I code things to kind of have a visual for what I am doing. You might notice that not every element is there, when I design I usually work on certain elements that will have a little different visual aspects and then do the rest while I code.

My personal opinion, I really dislike the widgetized area between the header and the main body. You would be better off putting them at the footer.
