Why you should start with a single blog
Let me tell you why you should start with a single blog only. Unexperienced bloggers that wants to have multiple blogs right at the beginning is just screaming for failure. People who have no clue about blogging should not jump right onto the make money online bandwagon. Do not forget that the way on top of the stairs is through the single steps.
Time management
If you’ve watched the movie Evan Almighty, the main character Evan wants to change the world. God taught him a lesson that if he wants to change the world, he should start with once act of random kindness. Just like in blogging, don’t get too excited on how much money other people have earned online. There is no such thing as easy money. If you have multiple blogs right from the start, there is a huge possibility that one blog might take more of your time that you tend to neglect the other blogs. Worst, if you are not a full time blogger, you are in deeper trouble.
Content management
You are the Jack of all trades, master of none. Writing multiple contents at on different topics is exhausting. Keep in mind that blogging is not all about writing content; you still need to work on your marketing and discover ideas on how to make money from it. Writing is not a routinary work that you can do anytime, anywhere. It’s not as if you’ll not loose ideas to write on.
Besides, multiple blogs can make you too stressful to think. You will suck in your writing that you’ll find it a hard to write quality and creative contents. You will lack focus because you are thinking way too much. One blog might take away more of time than the other. Or you may favour one blog over another and in the end, neglect some of your blogs.
It could eat up you up financially
Make sure your blogs are paying the bills for you, not the other way around. You need money for the domain, web hosting, blog design and advertising. If all works well for you, it’s good then, but it’s not, that’s a huge amount money and time to loose.
Progress would be slow
You are an unexperienced blogger, even though you have money to spend for advertising, it would not guarantee success. You have to build readership. Promoting a single blog is difficult, what more if you have multiple blogs under your wing.
So concentrate on one single blog first. But if you are a risk taker and still want to work on multiple blogs, work on it!

Great article. I initially started working on several blogs. Not really to maintain and upkeep them all. I started with 3 different areas that I’m interested in. Then after a couple months… I found myself focusing on just one. This is the one that I keep up and update continually and mold and shape into what I envision it to be.
I don’t think that I would have decided on starting the one I ended up with had I just chosen one topic. Although, I could see how choosing one topic could be beneficial.

Agree!!
At beginning, I started with 6 blogs and quit blogging after 3 months. After 6 months, back blogging again concentrating only one blog.
After a few months of blogging, then I’ve started my second blog. I still feel maintaining 2 blogs can take the whole day. It is still best to keep blogging with one blog. Maybe, I’m still not ready for 2 blogs yet.

I strongly agree with this: “People who have no clue about blogging should not jump right onto the make money online bandwagon.”

Honestly, it’s so hard to maintain even 2 blogs
Maintaining 1 blog takes so much of my time already, not to mention 2 or even 6??

I highly agree with you. Somebody who is new to blogging have no idea how much hard work there is to set up one blog. I admit I also wanted to have several blogs right away but at the end it only my main blog that got my attention.
Great article.

Great advice. You should really focus your energies on a small concentrated area before spreading yourself too thin. By taking on too much too soon you may miss some fundamental things that should have been learned / given attention to.

Interesting article. I’m focusing all my attention to one blog, but my subject matter varies wildly. I guess I’m still trying to find my “voice.”
Thanks!

good post! i’ve totally done this myself and it never works. it’s better to ease into having several blogs because the time requirements of more than one can be overwhelming and cause failure just from that aspect, not to mention spreading yourself too thin.

I agree. I’m just a newbie in blogging world. But I already owned 4 blogs and it is not easy to maintain those blogs. I need to arrange my schedule for those blogs but I admit it is hard.
Anyway, this is a very good post….

You’re right! Many bloggers spent so much money on their blog not thinking what might happen if everything fails. I know one blogger who start from self-hosted WP blog then now he transferred all of his post to her new blogspot blog.

I couldn’t agree with you more. In fact, I too have created a lot of blogs but I can only maintain one now since I am currently a nursing mom. So if you’re single and has all the time in the world to blog then maybe you can have multiple blogs or websites.

I started with 4 blogs. I was ambitious despite the fact that I knew nothing about blogging. Truth is I didn’t even know how to tweak my templates, early on; plus the fact that access to a computer was not always readily available. I had to make do with the availability of my sons’ desktops and my partner’s laptop. I am the only one in this house without a computer. Aaarrgghh!
Anyway, it was tough. My city blog got a PR3 early this year but was reduced to 0 after a few months. Until now I do not know the reason why. Initially, I felt so bad, because I didn’t know why.
My cooking blog remains with a google PR and alexa rank that somehow makes me okey already. The other two also 0 but increasing alexa. (Does this still matter, though?)
This is the first time I am saying that I have managed to earn something from my blogs. Nothing spectacular enough but to have given me some sense of fulfillment.
These 4 blogs plus others I have recently began, (travel and shopping) are all projects in progress. It’s a lot of hard work, late nights, lots of learning, hit and miss, tweaks and turns. But I think it’s all worth it.
What makes me most happy is that I have managed to teach my partner to blog his creative political juices. I taught him everything I know, no matter how little. He is a prolific blogger and grown to be popular with good PR, higher than mine and loads of links too. Plus, my son, who I have convinced to do a tech blog is now doing it very actively after work.
Now what more can I ask?
Thanks for allowing me to share this.

I agree, I used to have a lot of blogs before and I was completely exhausted! Now I only have a couple and while it’s still a chore trying to get in fresh contents week after week, but at least it’s manageable.
